Currie sits in the western half of Pender County, out where Moores Creek National Battlefield draws visitors and blueberry and row-crop farms occupy most of the rest of the land. Lots here are big, frequently wooded, and often bordered by working farmland instead of another house. That single fact reshapes what a fence is for. Very little of it is about screening a neighbor. Most of it is about defining where your ground ends and keeping the things that matter inside it.

Ground conditions vary more here than at the coast. Most of Currie is sandy and drains fast, which digs easily but grips a post loosely, so the concrete footing carries the wind on its own. Get close to the creeks and the story flips. That low ground holds water long after a tropical system passes, and a post sitting saturated for weeks is on a shorter clock than one in dry sand. We set every post in concrete, size the footing to the exposure of the fence, and route the line off the wettest run when the layout gives us the room.

Distance from the ocean does not mean distance from the weather. Storms track well inland across the county with plenty of wind still in them, and an open rural lot has nothing upwind to slow them. That is why we design here the way we design at the beach, favoring shadowbox and spaced picket where privacy allows, and building the footings up where a solid line is what you want.
