Burgaw Fence Installation

Burgaw is the county seat and it feels like one. The courthouse square, the old depot, and the blocks of older homes around them give the town a defined center that most of Pender County does not have, and the Blueberry Festival still pulls the whole county in every summer. Drive a few minutes in any direction and you are in farm country. Both of those Burgaws call us, and they want very different things.

In town

Around the square the lots are modest, the houses have some age on them, and a fence is as much a piece of the streetscape as it is a boundary. Picket is the natural fit, at a height that defines a front yard without walling it off. Ornamental aluminum has largely taken over from wrought iron because it carries the same look and the SolarShield powder coat means it will not rust down the pickets after a few wet years. Where a homeowner wants a stained-wood appearance without the upkeep, HeartWood puts that grain and color on a vinyl panel that holds it.

Out of town

Past the town limits the job changes shape. Runs get long, the reason for the fence is usually livestock or a clear boundary, and the gate question becomes as important as the fence question. Board fence along road frontage with field or woven wire carrying the back of the property is the pattern that works, with a defined yard near the house so the family space feels separate from the working land. Drive gates get sized to the equipment that actually uses them.

Inland is not out of range

Burgaw sits on the coastal plain, not behind any kind of shelter. Tropical systems track this far with plenty of wind still in them and the low ground along the creeks and the Northeast Cape Fear takes on water when they do. The soil is sandy and loose, which digs easily but does very little to hold a post against a hard blow. So the post work here is the same as it is at the beach. Concrete on every post, footings sized to the height and exposure of the fence, and a preference for shadowbox or spaced picket where a solid wall would only give the wind something to push on.
